I arrived at the course at Gatwick in good time, in fact I was an hour early, so I had plenty of time to worry about what to expect. I'd heard of the Virgin 'flying without fear' course before, but being a sceptical person I'd always thought what's the point, that won't work? But here I am in my mid 30's feeling exactly the same. The problem was that I wasn't getting to the core of my fears but just masking them with suppressants. Let's face it, when I arrive at my destination I'm a complete useless wreck! But when I met my wife who's from sunny Yorkshire, we have to take at least one flight a year to Spain! I love actually being there so much I go through the fear of a 2½ hour flight, my anxiety levels are running at 110%, so I usually try and numb my senses with prescribed Diazepam or plenty of on flight beverages. I didn't fly until my mid 20's as living in Kent, my father drove us to holidays, usually in the south of France. "I'm not frightened of flying daddy" are the words I love to hear from my 6 year old daughters' lips, so the last thing I want to do is push my fear of flying onto her.
